The purpose of this study was to investigate possible relationships between national culture and the usability How easy something is to use. Both software and Web sites can be tested for usability. Considering how difficult applications are to use and Web sites are to navigate, one would wish that more designers took this seriously. See user interface and usability lab. of an e-learning system. The theoretical frameworks that were used to guide this study were Hofstede's (1980) cultural dimensions Cultural dimensions are the mostly psychological dimensions, or value constructs, which can be used to describe a specific culture. These are often used in Intercultural communication-/Cross-cultural communication-based research.

The sample for this study was composed of 24 international students from 11 different countries attending a large Midwest university in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. This sample was selected for this study because they represented the various cultural dimensions being studied, had spent their formative formative /for·ma·tive/ (for´mah-tiv) concerned in the origination and development of an organism, part, or tissue. years in their home country, and were not advanced computer users.
